Obstacle Distance Indicator

I dont understand this on page 234 of the OM. Can someone explain it to me? I only get an audible warning when something is close to the back of the truck. I get no indication when something is close to the front or side - which is what this picture leads me to believe should happen. Maybe I dont have this option?

None of the trucks that I know of have any other sensor but the rear in the bumper. I dont thinh the rest are an option on the trucks yet.

360 cameras and 360 warnings is an option, believe I saw on the platinum I test drove.

Yes you can get the Cameras, but unless the have changed the order system the front and side sensors were not available.

Someone pulled in front of us and a red light lite up my windshield. Haven't opened the manual yet to figure out what is was.

Why did the good Lord put eyeballs and grey matter in your heads if don't use it. Swivel your head, look out the windows.
I'm starting to think the Super duty truck world has been over run with soccer mom's needing all these gizmos and gadgets in the trucks. When they stop working you guys are screwed.

Collision warning is a safety feature to pre load the brakes if the sensors are predicting major impact. This way when you do touch the brake you get max npbraking immediately. All the safety featepires are there to protect the occupants of the truck, and of other vehicles. Combined with anti lock brakes, traction control, anti sway, protects everyone better than old technology. Add the air bags to that as well.

If you don't want all these things just order a base model. I for one am no soccer mom, but I have a wife and two lovely girls I wish to protect the best I can. One of the reasons I bought this truck is the safety features in the truck over my older 2005 F350 diesel.

The first line to safety is driver awareness. Having all these "safety features" are only as good as the driver knows how to react or why is the truck functioning the way it is.

Now the OP was asking about a "parking aid" it will be a matter of time that someone will come on complaining that the sensor didn't warn them to stop before they hit an object. Just like the Darwinist that drive in to a lake because the gps sent them that way.

I agree the "nut behind the wheel" is the most important safety feature. The stats don't lie, safety systems are a good thing. I have yet to have a safety system save me personally, but I have seen numerous instances where they have.

Front distance sensors would be nice though. My 2017 Platinum has the cameras so you can see whats in front or on the side of the vehicle. Didn't see front sensors as an option when I built the truck. Are they even available?

I just looked on the build and price site, It doesn't show any front sensors if they are available.

Well scraprat let me know when you get to be 60 years old. If your head still swivels you are in better shape than me.

If and when I reach the golden age I certain hope I still have the ability to swivel my head and look out the window 5 feet from me. If not I hope the grey matter starts to tell me I might have to much vehicle. But knowing myself I'm sure I'll have denial like some folks of that age group and just keep on trucking because it won't be my fault and won't have the ability to look behind.

Well that's what I thought when I was younger and that's what I told everyone else. But the truth is the old neck just won't turn as far as it use to, granted everyone needs to use the ol grey matter but these driving aids sure help that is why I ordered them. I probably didn't need them when I was younger but I am pretty much a techie even at my age.
