I'm ready to get my truck on the road so I called my insurance company (geico) to get insurance on it. I want full coverage because l have a lot of time and money into it. The price was good but she or anybody there could not tell me how much it's worth. Have you guys out there have the same experience? I'm afraid if I wreck it there going to give me $3000 or something. Kelley blue book doesn't go back the old,but I find one for old cars and it said 17k for excellent condition can that be true? What do you guys do.
I have my covered through Hagerty (some other old classic vehicle insurance would work too, just google some) and I have 0 deductible and it's covered up to 5,000. costs me 300 a year. I own a 1970 f-250. I also have a 2001 f-150 with full covered and it costs me 45 a month and 500 deductible. That's through American Family Insurance.
X2 on the classic policy. Most insurance will not cover for value you claim for collision. About $300.00 or so is about all they will go for. For liability the Geico should be OK.
You first should get the Truck appraised. The consult your insurance company as to the policy value. You might have to go with Hagerty to be even close to the recovery value in a claim. Insurance companys are not out there to give you full value of what your vehicle may be worth. That is why they have such nice buildings to work in. They invented the word fraud as they shaft as many people as they can on a regular bases.
When your looking for a Classic car policy it's best to go with someone like Hagerty. And they aren't any higher they a regular Insurance company. I can't say for the other classic company's, but Hagerty is guaranteed valve, and they will put it back like you had it, a lot of the regular company's want to put it back original. Their Road Side assistance guarantees a flat bed, not a wrecker like most, another difference in their policy they even cover spare parts as part of their standard policy. And the best part you can drive it where and when you want, with no restrictions. And when you call them they know what your talking about, every employ, men and women alike training's includes first hand restoring a classic in their shop. I'm done with my commercial so I'll get off of here. Just saying compare not just price but all details of the policy.
I figure if it wasn't a (much) better deal for them than you, they wouldn't be doing it. It's like gambling. I have State Farm and they treat me good, but then I've never had a claim, and it's only then you find out if your insurance was worth a flip. I carry only high end liability and hospitalization. 64 and haven't wrecked a car yet, I'll take my chances.
I use Grundy. Agreed value and no mileage limitations! Mine was only $286 per year.
This is the type of insurance you want. One that insures for an "Agreed upon Value." Then you know what to expect.
Keep all receipts of work done, parts bought and appraisals from custom or restoration shops. The more documents you have the better.
They will photograph your truck for the insurance value. It helps if you have pictures of your truck from top to bottom, everything underneath, inside and out. More is better in this case.

If they could give you a cost quote then how come they couldn't tell you what VALUE they were basing that cost quote ON? You see what I mean? Red flags up all over here.
Go with Hagerty or Grundy.
