2011 Expy wired for brakes with tow package?

A trailer dealer today told me my 2011 Expy with the tow package is NOT wired for brakes. He says I need to put the pin in every time I back up.

That doesn't sound right. Anybody got some input on that?

Thanks

The class IV tow package with 4 pin connector (no brake wire) was standard in 2011, the HD towing package with the 7 pin (brake wire among them) was an option. If you have a factory 7 pin you should have a brake wire.

Thanks for your response.

My vehicle is equipped with the 4 pin connector and the 7 pin as well.

That means that when the 7 pin connecter is hooked up to the trailer I should be able to back up in reverse WITHOUT having to install the pin, correct?

Yes, assuming everything is working properly.

I believe you have confirmed my suspicion on line! The contacts looked less than clean so that will be tomorrow's task.

Thanks again!

The brake circuit is also fused independently. It is a 30A in position 18 in the power distribution box under the hood.

Wow, good to know. I will certainly check that out, too.

I will report back with my findings since you have been so helpful.

Cleaned up all the contacts on the wiring harness, tested the braking system including backing up, and it's all good.

Thanks for your help!

Winner winner. Fuse was ok, just corroded connections?

The fuse was fine but the connections needed sandpaper and a file. It ended up being a simple fix thanks to your help.

Speaking of fuses, the lights on my steering wheel are out. I investigated the owners manual and learned which fuse it was. I forget what # it was but it clearly seemed to be the correct one.

It seemed fine but I put a new one in anyway. Still did not work.

I went on this forum, I believe, and found that those steering wheel lights are a pain in the neck to fix. I tried a couple of different suggestions posted but no luck.

Any chance you are familiar with this issue? I can certainly live without those lights, but...

Those button clusters pop out of the steering wheel, could also be contacts. If not, at least they pop right out.
