Yeah, but you and I are jailbar guys. I had a 38 tonner for many years but I always thought it looked like an edsel. My dad used to say an edsel looked like a ford sucking on a lemon.....

Not sayin' I wouldn't get another one if it came up! And I didn't mean to offend any 38-39 owners, and I apologize if I did. There are at least as many owners that don't particularly like the front end treatment of the jailbar trucks.
Well, I have to agree it's not my favorite years of grill but I wouldn't pass that one up. Like the 59 Belair I bought to scavenge the 283 from. I ended up fixing that homely thing up and it grew on me, it's still in the family after 35 years.

I got rid of 3 '40 1 1/2 ton flatbeds - which I consider the best looking of all the flathead big trucks, when I bought my '39 p/u. At the time I wasn't much of a fan of the barrel nosed '38/'39's but they kinda grow on you. Seems like everyone has a '40/'41 p/u but not as many '38/'39's. Jail bars are another story, still haven't really warmed up to them but if the right tonner came along I might just have to jump on it.

Things do grow on you. When I brought my 40 Tonner panel home, I thought it looked just a little too much like a Fordson tractor. Now it's my favorite prewar (Well except the 40-41 Half ton and the 37 Studebaker Express).
Heck, it's just been since I started hanging out here a couple years ago that Jailbars didn't remind me of a grimacing chipmunk with cheeks full of acorns. Now I look for them everywhere.
