Hello fellow Ford owners and drivers. I drive a 2000 F250 XL Super Cab LB 2WD 7.3 Powerstroke. i drive like a grandpa. No rompin on the accelerator or anything. I was leaving the house got up to about 35mph and the truck lost acceleration. Motor still running fine. I coasted onto a side road. Put it in park, killed it, started it again and same thing. Will not go into drive at all. However will go into reverse just fine and accelerate in reverse. Input would be greatly appreciated!! Desperately wanting my favorite means of transportation back!
I think I would be paying a visit to whoever rebuilt it in less than 3 years ago, especially if you drive the way you say you do. How many miles on rebuild and was it a complete rebuild or what?
It's possible the feed bolts under the valve body have loosened, which will leak enough pressure to cause this. Either that or the trans has had an internal failure.

just get up in there with a wrench or do they need to be tightened a specific amount?
Considering its a 4R100, its probably broken or burned up. I traded in my '02 when it was only about 3 years old / 42,000 mi. because I couldn't tow in the mountains without it cooking itself. One problem, in factory form, is the torque converter doesn't lock until you get to 3rd gear. As soon as it drops down to 2nd, like on a steep grade,The T/C unlocks and the fluid temp skyrockets. Aftermarket programming can fix this. Maybe Ford has newer programming as well, I don't know. Our last trip with this truck was punctuated by a long hill that produced a pegged trans. temp gauge and a flashing O/D Off light. I was waiting for the "BANG" followed by a cloud of gray smoke, but we made it over the top. Traded it off the next day. Good truck, good engine, **** poor transmission. The trailer (5th wheel RV) had a wet/loaded road weight of 11,500 lb.

Every single nut and bolt on the truck has a correct torque value. I don't have a chart to be able to tell you the correct number, but I'm sure someone else has it.

To be fair, the "problem" with the 4R100 is lack of adequate cooling. This is why the swap to the much larger 6.0 cooler is such a popular option in 4R100 circles. I have one on my truck and my transmission temps stay well under control, even when towing my RV through the mountains. Keep it cool and it will last a good long time.
mine didn't die, but would hesitate to shift. it would rev up before going into next gear. took it in to get checked and overdrive clutch was gone, material all over the inside. just a matter of time for the others to follow. had to get rebuilt. replaced cooler, outer filter and all the outer plumbing as well. now i have to take it in again, leaking tranny fluid and is only been 2 months since was done. it is under their warranty still.
