I figured I'd start a new thread that is more relevant to what is going on with Whitey...which I have appropriately renamed B.O.P.A.S for Big Ol' Piece Of Sh**
I discovered my reservoir is empty, so the truck is running out of oil. I checked the oil filter housing valve, and it's good. It is either the HPOP drainback valve has failed or the LPOP is toast. Here is my thinking....come tax return time, it's getting a T-500 and a melling LPOP, whether it fixes the problem or not. Here is my reasoning. It has a JY HPOP in there now, which runs good, but is questionable. A new T-500 is an upgrade as well as an elimination to being stranded. A new LPOP is cheap enough and easy enough to replace and its one less issue that can leave me stranded. After the breakdown in El Paso and ALMOST being stranded again yesterday, I am over it and my confidence in this truck getting me and my family somewhere safely is waning.
I did get the PO on the horn yesterday to ask him some more history about the truck. Come to find out he used Lucas on EVERY oil change!!!
That would have been a deal breaker for me had he provided me with that little piece of information. He swears up and down that he did not ever change the HPOP though Adam and I pulled a re-manned one out of there. I think he's trying to cover his azz....ah well, can't paddle my canoe backwards, but now I have to have a plan from here on out. I guess I am also going to spend a good 1000 bucks on spare parts...if I even keep it at this point.
SO, to recap...LPOP issue and oil filter housing checks out. Even if HPOP drainback valve is good or not, it's getting a T-500. It's getting a new LPOP whether it's the issue or not just due to the oiling problems this truck has been having. It might be...MIGHT be that the LPOP took out the last HPOP. It has been mentioned in my texting network. It's just really REALLY odd that this truck has had two HPOPS in 160k miles. It's on it's third one.
DO NOT use oil additives in your truck if you are reading this and have fallen for some Saturday diesel truck show horse ****. That is all.
I think that the metal shavings did brake havoc on old Whitey. Try changing the oil filter and go from there.
You may be right. I changed it three times now. When I took it off this morning, the oil was like honey. Hopefully the trouble is behind me and I am just playing catch up.
It would take the smallest piece of debris to stop the anti drain back from working plus I'm pretty sure that the hpop gets fed with unfiltered oil. I think I would flush the system if possible. One other thing to consider is a broken oil pick up tube. If that happens you can end up with air bubbles in your oil. Good luck byron.

Thanks Nick. I did as much of a flush as I could I think. Oil looks like honey. I'll send a sample into Blackstone as soon as I can get him up and running again and put some miles on him.
I kinda doubt my pick-up is busted with the low miles....at least I really hope not.
Mike I haven't. I have zero time this week and it's getting replaced whether it tests good or not just due to the history of oil issues. I may test Sunday when all the craziness slows down.
