I'm at the point now where I need to know what peripherals to keep or replace from my old engine ...... water temp sensor , oil temp, vacuum tree water pump, water neck etc... upgrades worth or should consider (within reason anyway)... replace my old 351m distributor? with what? replace coil too is this necessary? highly recommended? what about starter is the old one okay now its built as a 400 (stock low end torque rebuild but more compression than before etc) alternator replaced if you think I should replace distibutor? first rebuild and i want to cover all the bases...

also, truck sat idle for couple years so what to do with the gas tank, fuel lines? new or clean it? brake line.. they going to be okay?

i think you can maybe follow the gist of what i'm asking... just had knee surgery and I'm fuzz from the meds...

If all of your electrical stuff was good before the rebuild, it should be good now. It all works the same on the 400 as it did on the 351M.

Thanks for your advice! I really don't know what worked or didn't, as I'm not the original owner. I do know it was not taken care of.

I was just thinking that maybe it'd be recommended to do some as new components especially where parts are relatively cheap and/or complicated to troubleshoot.

Gas tank sat up with gas for several years, so I need to drain it and rinse it or replace it, just for my piece of mind and out of respect for the people who built my new carburetor.

Check your rubber parts closely. Belts and hoses, etc. Those are usually the first thing that go when a vehicle sits.
