Stay off the diff, any diff with a rear cover. The 1994 FSM also says this.
I've jacked the old Ford 9" and 9 3/8" diffs with a board on the big jack saddle. That was a different era!
If your stats are up to date, a 1994 F-150, you have the Ford 8.8", so no jack under diff. Use axle tube further out, or axle tube between spring U-bolts, lower shock mount if it is massive (can't remember what my 1994 Bronco shock mount looks like at the moment). I jack my 1997 F-150 SCLB by lower shock mounts, so I can put the stands under the axle tubes between each spring's U-bolts.
