Hi!
I have a J for my front Axle (1977). Fordificaton say 73-79 and Ford for manufacturer.
I thought I had a Dana 44. Maybe I have to identify through Pictures?
Even though the last digit in the axle code is supposed to refer to the front axle, it rarely actually had anything to do with the axle itself. The last code usually is for power steering (J) or tilt wheel (A). There are other codes for power steering and tilt wheel but those are the most common.
Sorry, just realized you're trying to id your differential. It's probably a Dana 44. You can id if the tags are still on it or it also has a 44 stamped into the lower right hand corner web. Location 3 in the diagram below.
Thanks march! I didn't know. When some of the codes reads Dana44 or Dana 60 I thought all codes was for the Front Axle. I will take a Picture and identify this way.
