Hood hinges

Going to replace my hood hinges on my 53 f-100. I notice the bolts holding the hood are the aircraft type & they are safety wired together, is this normal ? Hood is kind of sloppy & won't stay up. I've seen three different prices on line. Who has the best hinges ?

They are all poor by design and even the expensive billit ones are questionable which is why many go to the front flip hood . I am working on an idea for mine but am a long way from testing yet as I don't care for the idea of leaning over the fenders to do engine work . Someone should chime in on the better ones that are out there .

The bolts were originally wired toegher.

I bought a pair of hinges on eBay from CAPGOKC, I think they used to be Oklahoma Obsolete. They cost $89 a pair. I haven't put them on yet. But they look as good and well built structurally as the originals.

The original hinges rarely worked well. It's normal to see owners going from side to side pushing the back of the hood in place. Well meaning previous owners frequently strip the blind nuts trying to get the hood to work properly. Mid Fifty has a blind nut repair kit that has received mixed reviews but you still will probably have to push the back of the hood down even if you fix your bolts. FYI there is a wavy washer between the bolt and the hood that is frequently missing compounding the hood hinge problems.
There are several vendors that sell hood flip kits. I'm pretty sure most of them are from CPP. Mid Fifty sells two. Give them a call and ask them which is best. And if you haven't already done it ask them for their free catalog. Home - Mid Fifty F-100 Parts

I got tired of trying to adjust the hinges for a good fit....went with the No Limit kit since it is what Midwest Early Ford carries.

Very east to install and works so much better.
