After having mine cleaned by a local shop, 20,000 miles later the unison ring stuck again. I decided to just replace it as I really think the i/s diameter of the new ring is slightly larger, knowing this has been a reoccurring issue for Ford.
You don't list your truck year in your profile, which would help, but here's my Ford parts I used on my 07, plus a Blue Spring fuel regulation kit.
With it apart, I'd spend the extra 150 bucks or so to avoid pulling it apart again soon.

Might make that a project for this coming weekend. Thanks for the part numbers too, ill double check that everything lines up with my '06.
I was waiting for someone to suggest a few full throttle runs. No one has, so I will. I have PO299 at least 1 or 2 times a year. My fix is a steep uphill climb. Full throttle, repeat if needed. I have never cleaned my turbo. Spooling the turbo up to max rpms seems to work.

Oh come on, its no fun to go WOT... But if you really think I HAVE TO, then I guess I will :/

You will know when the unison ring is truly stuck. No throttle runs can help! Both times mine stuck, it took quite a bit of prying to get that ring loose. It wouldn't move without a couple of big screwdrivers to jimmy loose.
Your method might help if it's just starting to stick from lack of use, idling, or cold/hot cycles.
