Two Issues

Hoping you guys can helo with two issues:

1. Rear turn signals work but both fronts stopped working. When I put either the left or right blinker on, the guage flashes both left and right simultaneously like the hazards are on. Is this indicative of a burnt bulb?

2. Oil bath filter will not seperate. Has the original labels so I dont want to soak the entire canister. Is there a lock or a secret to sperate the two halves?

Thanks in advance.

I might be be able to help on question 1. If they both flash simultaneously then you might want to check and clean any grounds. Mine used to do the same thing until I tightened up one of the headlights and now both blinkers work correctly.

Not familar with the oil bath, suggest try an advance search on topic and narrow field to the 61-66 forum. Brief look-see came across a link may find helpful? There should be a 'how to' convert oil bath article in the 'tech' forum, again suggest trying running an advance search on topic?

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-question.html

As My1964ford mentioned, tend to find many electrical problems due to a poor ground? Suggest check to ensure the connections from dash harness to instrument cluster are attached correctly, particularly if worked on recently. Make sure to clean ground surfaces before securing the ground wire, with exterior connectors, I use a dab of dielectric grease.

Posting a link to another thread where member posted diagrams post #4 may find helpful?

oil bath answer

Just flip it upside down and gently run a flat blade screw driver around the perimeter between the outer and inner shells. It should be all that's necessary to break the seal. I just did this a couple of days ago for the same problem.

It feels like there is a locking mechanism as the 2 pieces have a spring in between. Still havent gotten the 2 pieces apart but the spring makes me feel like there is a trick to seperating them?

There's no spring, the upper half is stuck to the lower half, usually caused by dirty varnished oil. It probably hasn't been apart since Reagan was prez.

It's stuck together, a common problem w/an oil bath that hasn't been taken apart in a long time.

If I remember correctly, the truck was running, and oil spilled out of the cannister when you removed it from the carb. If it has been a while since it was cleaned, there is a lot of grit and grime between the top and bottom halves. Turn it upside down, and spray WD 40 around the lip, this will loosen, and clean out the grit. Like Bill said, it's a common problem with the oil bath filters. Put up a pic of the cannister if you can.

Thanks

Straight outta Kansas a month ago. One owner for 41 years and then the ford dealer bought it back and kept it shelved for 10 years.

Original paint but will go for a frame off in about a year to preserve it as it needs no patch panels just some surface...
