That's almost certainly the pickup coil inside the distributor

So it ended up being the ignition switch! Fired right up once I got it swapped out. Now once you put it in gear it doesn't want to stay running, purse like a kitten at idle, could the timing be off? Pretty much the only thing I haven't messed with but it does have a new distributor plugs and wires

Suggest you pick up a Shop manual for your truck, there are all kinds of settings and adjustments that makes a big difference on ease of starting and how it runs. Download the setup and instruction sheet for your carb and start from scratch. Make sure the float and fuel level is correct, linkage is correct and use a vacuum gauge to set the idle mixture.
