I have a 1985 F350 2wd with T19 4 speed. The speedo had not worked since getting the truck and the other day I pulled the speedo cable at the trans to fix it. I found the gear severely worn and thus replaced it. While I had the cable out of the trans I check that it wasn’t broken by attaching the cordless drill to it. While I ran the drill my wife confirmed that the speedometer was working.
But, now that I have it all hooked up with a new cable gear the speedometer bounces a lot and reads low until the truck reaches about 60 mph. It did not bounce when I ran it with the drill so there must be something in how it is being driven by the trans gear that is causing it to bounce and read low. Any ideas?
Well, I thought of that, but I had the extension housing off and the gear looked okay. I must admit though I have not seen a drive gear before so I'm not sure what it should look like.
They look like threads on a vary large diamiter bolt and if it's plastic (some were plastic, like the worn one on my 435, and I replaced it with a metal one) it might be worn but not look like it.
