Angry 2003 F250 A/C Problem

I purchased a 2003 F250 V-10 super cab truck and I have had problems with the A/C. While driving in 95 to 100 degree temps (A/C on max), my vent thermostat is showing 60 to 62 degrees in city driving and 50 to 52 degrees on freeway driving. In my opinion that is way to hot for an A/C system. I only have 3200 miles on this truck and my four cylinder car cools off 10 to 15 degrees more in the same conditions. I took the truck to the dealership twice and they tell me there is nothing wrong with the A/C and Ford specs say it's acceptable for the A/C to cool 30 degrees lower than the outside temp. I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so, have they found the fix. I'm also curious how to approach the dealer service dept. in an \effort to make them fix this problem. would appreciate any feedback.
John

Try insulating the evap to compressor line, even though you should not have to do that...a 30 degree drop is expected in the ambient air in the cab, at your vent you should be getting around 40 degrees. I'd check psi myself if i was you...if you really want the dealer to fix it, drain down your system half way and bring it in, then they will find a problem. If its under warranty they will probably tune it all up for you.

Thanks for your response bettamanpj. You mentioned the specs for the ambient temp inside the cab should be 30 degrees cooler than outside temp. If that is true, is the dealer pulling my leg, when they say the vent temp is what they use regarding that 30 degree spec?

2003 F250 A/C Problem

You should be able to expect a 50 degree difference between ambient and outlet temp at temps 90 and above on average. Humidiy will cause a variance of course, as well as environment.. IE stop and go, pavement temps, air flow variances. A lot of the super duty vehicles I see are low on freon due to compressor leaks, and I often find the orifice tube contaminated. They tend to be one of the more frequent premature AC failures I see in the shop. However being a 2003, unless you have already put on a lot of miles it would be quite premature. Dont let out freon, just find the right dealership or get the manager involved. Rigging a failure will often net an incorrect repair and they might just replace the charge port rather than look deeper. You may even have a control problem.
