another serious A/C problem
the a/c started blowing warm 72degrees....i added a can of 134a......dropped to 62
truck sits for 2 days......still blows 62........drive around town a little and it warms up to 74 degrees coming out the vents.....
find an autoparts store and add another can w/ stop leak in it......drops back to 60 (even 55 while drive about 50mph)
at the parts store the a/c compressor clutch started making a rattling noise when it was engaged. (it wasn't making this noise 2 days ago when i was under the hood) when u turn the a/c off....the clutch disengages........turn the a/c on.....the clutch reengages and make the crazy rattling noise
any idea whats up? maybe the compressor is going bad and has an internal leak, but the pulley bearing is good (because it sounds normal when the a/c is off)
I'm looking for any feed back..........i have to drive it 5 hours tomorrow in 100degree heat while towing a trailer......just don't want the compressor to seize and snap the belt (i have an extra belt though)
plus I'm gonna have to fix it when i get home
You can over charge. The tool your using to fill doesn't have a gauge on it? Auto parts stores sell the cheapo charge hose with the color coded gauge. It will get you in the ball park.
Clutch making noise means possible overcharge and its working hard to spin the pump. If its worn out or the gap isnt set right its probably slipping causing the chatter.(you make no mention of miles on truck).
Ambient temps will effect how you fill Freon. If you filled it at night without a gauge chances are you over filled it and the high switch is holding it out.
But it sounds like the clutch may be on its way out. If you do a road side repair swapping a clutch be sure you have the right feeler gauge to measure the static gap. Its an L shaped wire gauge not a flat feeler gauge and it it critical to get it right.
