Give the poor Dodge boys some slack. I got into the car industry not just because they are always hiring and pay pretty good without requirements of having a degree in Intercultural faith studies of Pixies in the far East, but because I'm a car guy. My brand of choice was Rambler, and as such I spend much time with Chrysler folks. When I first got in the industry in 2008 (bad time to get in btw), I went to Chrysler with high ideals! Well that sucked, their vehicles sucked, and when I came back I knew Ford was the brand for me. I'd love to be selling top quality classy Chryslers, driving a fun little Dart around, and selling the best truck on the market! None of those things exist over at Chrysler though. Ford is where it is due to large amounts of luck, but there were some undeniable great choices along the way that happened when they needed to happen. Its hard to give up on a brand you grew up loving, poor kids.

I have both a 03 F150 and a 04 Dodge 2500 5.9L. Both are crew cabs. I like both trucks but for different reasons. The Dodge is used to tow my 26' boat that was once the F150's job. The F150 rides a lot better however the Dodge gets much better fuel mileage. The Dodge has 197k miles while the Ford has 88k miles.


When these trucks are due for a replacement, I am not sure what I will get however it will be a diesel. I may keep the Ford for my son however he is only 9 years old.

Agreed, the SD I sat in had just as much leg room as my current Mega cab. It was a tough decision for me, as I wanted to try a long bed truck this time around so I don't have to worry when pulling my 5er. BUT, you cannot get a mega cab long box. (would look stupid I think) And the crew cab dodge seems smaller in the back seat than a crew cab Ford.
I will certainly miss the back seat storage on my mega though. Once you have it, its a tough thing to lose. You can easily put 2 medium sized suit cases back there, along with my road safety kit, first aid kit, emergency winter clothes, etc. I have used it many-many times. Especially when you fold down the rear seats! I put a full sized baby crib back there when I bought it!

In my company we've had a 98 2500 Quad cab 5.9L 12v,2002 2500 Quad cab 5.9L 24v,2002 3500 drw regular cab Plow truck 5.9L 24v, 2005 Quad cab 2500 5.9L and a 2008 quad cab 6.7L all great motors everyone of those trucks except for the 2008 had to have the transmissions replaced (never replaced a ford transmission that was maded to any of my diesels all the way back to the 6.9L) and the front ends would need a complete rebuild every 50,000Kms at a cost of $2500 . I have always liked the sound and feel of that straight 6 it's always been the rest of the truck falling apart around it that finally turned me off from buying anymore Dodge's

I can't speak to Cummins reliability on passenger vehicles as I have never owned one, but in the RV world I find your statement very accurate.

When I bought my RV in 2007 I had a chioce between Cat and Cummins. I chose Cat , even though I knew they were leaving the RV market. It just seemed Cummins had way more problems than Cat. I've seen the Cummins engines in Dodge/Ram and I don't think they are as reliable as the Duramax and the the Ford 6.7, but obviously they were better than previous Ford diesels.

All mechanics and electronics will fail, its just a matter of time. All three make a great truck. I just dont think i could own a chevy/gm, nothing mechanical wise, just not my design.

*International. Yes the 6.0 and 6.4 where in Ford trucks, but if you're calling the Chevy a Duramax, than details matter for a better understanding. The 6.7 is now made by Ford, and that's a significant difference.

I remember buying a new duramax in 2002. Everyone was squabbling over whether it was a chevy motor or not. I guess it was technically a joint venture between chevy and Isuzu and the company was called DMAX. My motor said ISUZU in big letters on the valve covers.

I assumed that was common knowledge, based on where I posting.

The Scorpion platform is outstanding.

I purchased my 3rd Ford Super Duty very recently. In the process I took a real hard look at the Ram 2500/Cummins. It was a very tough decision as I really wanted to give the Cummins a try because I like certain things about it(sound, throttle response, great reputation, etc...)and Ram makes a very sharp truck. Even though I had a better financial deal on the '17 Ram I chose the Ford, really for the aluminum body and there were some of the things about the Super Duty that I did not want to give up...

The Ram/Cummins has horrible throttle response. I have about been t-boned a few times trying to get out in heavy traffic.

The SD and the mega cab both have 43" of rear seat legroom. The Ram crew cab only has 40" of rear legroom. I learned all this while researching the trucks. I had a 2006 mega cab, it was a great highway cruiser. The storage behind the rear seat was great, plus there were storage bins back there.

My biggest issue with it is that it's an older platform, poor headlights, and it's not as peppy as the SD.
