Same here. I had a 2010 Ram mega dually, and currently drive a 2012 Ram mega dually. No complaints what-so-ever. When looking at new trucks I was just disappointed that the 2017 Ram is virtually identical to my 2010 ( with exception to the stereo display). I found that the new SD just has so many new options that I would give it a try. This will be my 1st SD ever. I just wanted something different.
That's a tough one! I'm about 90% on buying the SD, but I can't help thinking how nice it would be to have all that mega cab space. My kids could actually recline the seats on our trips, and I could keep all my emergency junk in the Ramboxes....all at a lower price. However, that Ram is an older design and the headlights suck at illuminating the road.
I joined here to learn more about the SD. I can tell you from test driving both, the SD is definitely quicker and quieter.
To be honest, Cummins is about the only company im brand loyal to, just such an awesome motor. However, i have worn out all the body styles so even buying a 17 wouldnt feel new to me. For now I like the Superduty the best. It wouldnt be any fun to live life always buying/owning the same things, i feel sorry for those guys. Heres what i sold for the SD, never had a problem. The SD is just much nicer all around in my opinion. I wanted gray again, but dont like how the magnetic looks. I will miss the mineral metallic paint on my old truck.

Agreed, I am going to miss the mega cab for sure. There is so much room back there, it's amazing. And I also agree that the headlights suck.
I think truck brand loyalty is a lot of fun. I'm always getting pictures like, "The only thing that runs good in a Chevy is the owner's mouth," and lots of other stuff not appropriate for this forum from friends about competitors' trucks.
I've owned a Ram, and it was OK. I worked it hard too. Overloaded it (who me?) and drove it up steep dirt hills and it did just fine.
My complaint with it was everything in the interior felt cheap and as it aged all that cheap plastic on the interior started cracking.
We rebuilt the engine/trans and my company still owns it. Still going strong.
I like Ford much better, but I would not bash Rams or Chevys. Now Toyotas? I owned one of them too. Don't get me started on those.
My Nissan Titan beats any half ton truck Ford built ... in 2007. Seriously, the Titan is a great truck. It just doesn't come close to what the F-350 can do, so I moved up. Plus, I can claim everyone on this forum as a friend. Right? Right?
I had to look that one up. Ram, [like Ford] and has Assembly Plants in both the U.S. and Mexico.
I think I read somewhere that Ford is moving the 6.7 Scorpion Assembly Plant to the United States. (thanks Donald)

somehow in my google search I ended up in a dodge forum thread. You guys no how that happens (click click click Squirrel!!!). Someone said how nice the new ford sd was and for 8 pages they were like little school girls trying to discredit the claim. WOW!
HAHA this is great for one reason alone! SQUIRREL!! wait what was i saying? ooh look a new Super Duty, what motor does it have? is that grill a Lariat or KR? ooh nice wheels and big tires, hey is anyone hungry?!!?
I thought my band of heathens was one of the only that uses the squirrel reference. We all even have Secret Squirrel stickers on our work badges, just to keep each other on track sometimes haha.

Reason: typo's

Familiarity breeds contempt. I love my 2017 Super Duty, but being perfectly honest, part of me wants to buy a RAM. I just really like the styling. The Cummins has a good reputation for longevity, and I like the way it sounds. More diesel-like than the Ford 6.7L. But I would have a few problems: one, FCA is a crap company on the verge of bankruptcy, with Cummins suing FCA and FCA suing Cummins. I don't want my money going back to Italy, FCA has a reputation of building poor quality products, and the truck I'd really want, with the 6-speed manual, has low engine output. Finally, the Cummins may be reliable, but it is slow and agricultural compared to our slick V8 diesels. Not to mention the truck is an old platform and lacks many of the features of our new truck...plus it is not as safe.
Brand loyalty conversations can be fun to watch and listen to!
I have not owned a Cummins since about '95. Several SD's in the past many years, but I have to say there are some things about the Ram that I really like. One of the main ones is price! I can't believe the price difference with the '17's
I think brand loyalty is a flaw that results in picking something other than the best option. Which is fine if you end up with a vehicle you're happy with, but guys like me are always looking around and thinking about better options.
I think everyone makes a good truck nowadays...the new Titans look downright impressive for 1/2 and 5/8th-ton trucks IMHO. If I were in the market again, I'd happily drive everything and make the best choice. Most of the time that's been a Ford, but it certainly doesn't have to be that way. Our Transit was towed to the shop yesterday for the 5th time because it wouldn't start...the dealer can't figure it out. Most of my Fords have been great to me, but examples like this make me wanna buy something else.

Couldn't disagree more. Motor Trend, Car & Driver, TFL Truck...everyone who has reviewed these new Titans / XD has basically panned them. They universally over promise and under-deliver. The 5.0L Cummins is basically a failure - not enough power, and poor fuel economy. The gas V8 versions struggle up the big hills. Slow, expensive, and poor economy. Not the hallmarks of a great truck. These 'tweener' XD trucks basically come near the cost of a 3/4 ton truck but with the capability of an F-150. I cannot understand why anyone would buy them...or the Toyota Tundra for that matter, but I'm getting off topic.
Brand loyalty is not always blind...it is founded on the innate belief that even if your truck doesn't have every single feature or the highest specs of the current class leader...it still is a great truck, and the one you want to be driving. I feel that way about Ford. Just so happens they are on top right now, and have been for awhile.

I've read some of that, but some positive things as well. This isn't really the place to debate that, though...I've drug enough threads off-topic as it is. They say I'm supposed to set the example?

I guess. With my current situation, I'm probably going to be getting rid of my F150 in the next month or two. After more than a dozen Fords, I'm looking more at Jeep if I get something that can tow, and Toyota if I'm willing to sacrifice capability for low operating costs and superb resale value. Ford makes vehicles in those categories, but there are objective reasons for me to choose otherwise that I can't ignore.

I traded in my JK on my 2017 SD -- I only had it for six months and traded it in for a big loss (yep there is a pattern here).
There was a lot I loved about the Jeep not the least of which is the Jeep wave. Why we don't have a SD wave is beyond me.
Things I didn't like:
- Had rag top. Hot/Cold with outside air, noisy, often removed when rain starts, no quick easy way to put it back on. ZERO security. Hated that.
- After I got caught in a pop-up FL thunderstorm and got poured on, the inside never smelled right. They can say it's ok for it to get wet, but my nose felt different.
- Did not ride well. Rode great for off road, but I do sand -- not rocks. It failed me in the sand (got stuck and trying to get out it took about 30 seconds to burn up the clutch) -- and I've taken my FX4 in to much worse sand with zero problems so far (knock on wood).
- No room. Like literally there really isn't room. For that reason I didn't carry recovery gear which had much to do with my problems on the point above.
- Hand brake (turns out this is a major problem) kept getting looser and looser and had to be adjusted every few weeks.
- No pickup bed. (Even though I have access to trucks via my company it got to be a PITA every time I had to go get one when I needed a truck for work, personal work, or pleasure.)
- Jeep rattle. Google it, it's another thing. Drove my wife crazy. (She loved the Jeep and hated to see it go -- but the rattle, well, rattled her every time we drove it. She kept asking me to get it fixed, but they could never 'find' it or fix it.)
As for Toyota trucks -- I was mostly kidding above. I owned one of their smallest between 1991?-1993?. It was like driving a Camry with a bed. It never gave me a lick of trouble but I'm a big guy and always felt packed into it. I've never driven a Tundra.
