Just tap them in with a hammer. Snug fit but very easy to install. They frequently pull out of the block when removing your heads. But they are critical to aligning your head gaskets.

I went to NAPA today and they said they do not have any dowels like that nor couldn't get order any. I went to a locally owned parts store that sells Car Quest. They looked in their computer and couldn't get any. I went to the Ford dealer parts man. First he said his computer only goes back to 1985. Then I told him what other engines used the same dowel. He said he could get one for a 93 5.0 Mustang.... only $22.
So tonight I ordered a set of 4 from the above link, only $3.50 and $6.90 shipping.

The dowels came today. I bought a pack of four for $3.50. I needed one. Shipping was 6.50. They said one day shipping. I ordered them Wednesday night but they didn't ship them until Friday morning, which means they wouldn't come till Monday (today). My BIL, Dave, was going to come today but I told him the dowel so that be here until Monday he decided to come Wednesday, which is good as the high today was in the high 30's and Wednesday will be in the high 60's. So hopefully my truck will be running Wednesday afternoon .
So, tonight I worked on something I've been wanting to do for years. That is to put my spark plug wires around the back of the engine as they were originally. I got three of the four grommets and brackets in the right place but I don't know where the fourth one goes.
I looked in the shop manual and a 54 dealer catalog to see how to run them. But no help in the fourth one. Does anyone know where it goes? Here are the pics.
Look'n good Abe. I love the vintage diagrams you posted. What book did those come out of? I will look and see if I have any picture that shows what you are looking for. Hope you get your truck running. Warmer weather is a come'n!

The color ones came out of a 54 dealer brochure or catalog. The black and white ones are from the 54-55 shop manual.
Did your 55 engine have the wires routed correctly before you tore it apart?
Yes Abe it was running before it was removed from the F100. So it does not have the high mount water pump and it was converted to 12V so it has an alternator. I bought it at the time thinking I might use it but I have decided to have my original rebuilt. Its a good shop weight or resource for guys like you:- If you hear of anyone needing a good Y send them my way.
