My wife and I are looking to be foster parents or foster to adopt a sibling pair now that I have retired from the military and can devote time to my family. In order to be approved by the state for certain age ranges the home must have all of the neccessary furniture like beds, seating, dressers, etc...
We currently have 2 twin beds, a crib, a sectional couch and 2 dressers in our basement that we are getting ready to bring up into the living space.

Hey, congrats on the "new" family. Although, I strongly suggest you do it the way I did and get the kids when they're a bit older - as in out of college! You have to buy the furniture before you get approved??? I would understand after approval, but before move in date ...

You do have to get the furniture before being approved as once your approved and your home is "open", you can get a call anytime and have to be ready. The DFCS representative does not want to call you and then delay a day or two before dropping the child/ren off because there is nowhere for them to rest.

Ah, makes sense for the foster bit. I was thinking more along the lines of adoption. I have some friends who decided to become foster parents about ten years ago. They were approaching retirement. Never made it past the first kid. He was just under a year old when they got him, and eventually adopted him. And they already had five grown & married kids. So they started all over again at 50 something. They said it was the best decision they ever made. Now they spend their "retirement" raising him and taking him everywhere every summer on vacation.

When we talk about being foster parents this is a very typical reaction. Thanks for the well wishes.
