I have often thought of putting a solar charger on the camper to keep the battery charged while it sits and waits to be used.

I know Del's door was damaged at one time by someone who tried to break in. I keep checking ours to see if it has been broken into. I am not sure what they would expect to find once they broke in. I hope we escape the possible vandals. Ours is behind a fence, but anyone can drive in and walk right up to it. The only good thing, is lots of people drive by it at all times of day and night. I would like to get it into a covered storage eventually. If we upgrade, or change campers in the future, I will insist on storing it inside, or under cover. We do have full coverage on it, but I would feel really bad if someone did try to break into it, because it was kind of my Dad's pride and joy.

I did have someone try to break in to our old camper years ago. I was lucky they buggered up the door but didn't get in. There was really nothing of value in it. I assume they are looking for electronics (TVs, etc) that can be sold for drug cash) or just young kid who are vandals doing it for what they can grab and kicks. The problem is when they screw up a door it costs a bunch more to fix than anything they could get.

Curtis, You might check with Rex over in Wamego for covered storage with locked gates. Folks can still get in there if determined as the gates are chain link but saves on the camper. I don't know what his fee is now, but I paid $85/mo. You might have room to get both the camper and a vehicle in there if you squeeze them. Contact would be Rex's Electric.

Thanks Del!

We are currently paying $30, and have full coverage, so I am torn on whether we want to spend the extra, since we have had good luck for a year and a half out there.

Full Coverage on the camper is not really all that expensive, especially if it has a restroom and can be used to live in as a "Second house"

I tried that, but the cheap little HF solar panel I bought didn't seem to make much of a difference and wouldn't keep it charged up with the constant small draw from the camper. Now I just unhook the battery when we're done camping for the weekend, but I also haul it home over the winter months and keep it on a trickle charger in the garage.

Our camper has a large throw switch that all of the battery power runs through that we have to remember to switch off and on as we prepare to camp, then when we put it back in storage. its pretty easy to remember, except for once or twice, but I remembered the next day, so went out and switched it.

No switch on ours. I always just unhook the ground to the battery and leave the batteries in place.

My switch is in a funny place, its behind the vanity mirror in the Livingroom, at the far end of the room from the battery. (burried behind all of the excess camping gear that one day will short it out and cause a fire.) LOL!

They make one that clamps on the battery terminal, when you turn it, it clamps the two surfaces together, and when you turn it again, it releases the pressure, and no worky.

You need a switch on the dash like Clint has on Mad Max, just a main power shutoff.
