Like a lot of other 70s vehicles, someone cut a sunroof into my truck a long time ago.
It's a trail truck...albeit a nice trail truck. Was thinking of removing the thing and cutting a piece of plate 1/8 aluminum (something I happen to have in the garage) maybe about an inch too big for the whole opening, and drilling some nicely spaced holes and securing it with small nuts and bolts all the way around the opening. I'd seal it all the way around with a bead of silicone where the aluminum sits on top of the steel roof, kinda like how you'd do a diff cover, and I was just going to put a new headliner in the truck.
The truck is lifted...you'd have to be in the bed to even be able to see this.
Anyone see any big issues with this plan? I'm assuming the top of the roof is close enough to flat to make this work.
I'd use seam sealer instead of silicone, but otherwise, I don't see why it wouldn't work. Seen several vehicles with the sunroof hole filled that way. 1/8" aluminum is pretty beef for the application but if you have it on hand might as well work with what you got.
