Talking Dash Cams Mega Thread

It's not really isolated to Super duties but good place to start. I would like to see people setups and comments on dash cams.

I am of the mind now that might not be a bad idea to add one to a truck. Security of a $85,000 truck (that ones for you big guy) is important. And just having peace of mind.

Having never had one I really would like something out of site out of mind.

So let's see what you got.

I have this one. It's hardwired in now, so I don't even think about it. I comes with 2 cameras, front & rear (or wherever you want to mount the second one). The setup allows you to have the screen go dark about a 20 seconds after startup, so it isn't distracting...or you can just always have it on.

It works great so far.

I agree, most of this/ours trucks are 70k+ and an extra hundreds doesn't seem bad idea to protect in case some kien of insurance frauds in highways or even in parking lots
I have the Viofo A119S and planning to hardwire it in upfitters switch on 5-6 to leave it on when I be in parking lots and truck off and turn it off when I be on home(no need for dashcams)

There are a few treads on here. Might try searching. I have a WheelWitness HD PRO Dash Cam with GPS - 2K Super HD - 170° Lens - 16GB microSD - Advanced Driver Assistance. Comes with 3 different mounts. $124.97. I added a 64GB SanDisk

Can you guys post pics of how you've got your cam mounted? Anyone figure out how to tuck it somewhere unobtrusive?

One thing I have read that is if you are in a hot environment, you want a capacitor based dashcam as they hold up to extreme heat better. Not sure if this is the case, but it seems to be a hot topic among dashcam folks. Anyone have any input on this here?

This is absolutely the case. Battery based dash cams fail more quickly because batteries just simply don't do well in the pretty extreme heat behind a windshield in the summer.

That is my area for sure. Just a little cooler than Phoenix because of our 4300 ft elevation. Thanks for the tip.
Look forward to seeing installs.

I need one that can easily be removed or well hidden as any photography is banned in some areas I work. Top secret and all hush hush. I have not seen one that is well hidden.

I would like to find a dashcam that I can place in the nook in the center of the dashboard. I don't really want to hang it from the windshield.

Has anyone mounted the dashcam on the flat surface under the rearview mirror? It looks like a perfect mounting location unless it has some other function and should not be used.

I mounted mine next to it so it doesn't look to obvious from outside

I have the Gitup Git2, its a GoPro clone with dash cam features built in like auto startup and record, auto memory roll over, image stabilization, etc. It has a killer picture and it doubles as a second GoPro for me when I go riding. Really highly recommended for the money!
