I am still on the hunt for a discrete dashcam and a way to add sonic sensors or camera to front of my truck.

Also have to consider trucks without all the safety upgrades lack the the massive unit that surrounds the rear view mirror.

If one could access the camera from that unit and program it the same as a dashcam it would be the slickest implementation ever!

This is my Street Guardian SGZC125G dash-cam. So far it's done a great job.

Short ride. Can I get some info on your radar and mounting solution? I'm torn on what direction I want to go.

As far as dashmount camera I'm thinking the Thinkware x550 with rear camera as well.

The radar detector you see in the picture is a wireless Escort Solo S2 (an older model). It runs on 2 AA batteries that last approximately a month depending on the use of course. The Escort has performed very well for me and picks up signals from the front as well as to the rear. I hate wires and only settled on my choice of dash-cams because the 12 volt power wire was long enough and fairly easily routed along the headliner and down the passenger side trim to the 12 volt power source.

The mount you see in the picture for the radar detector is a BlendMount that allows me to quickly remove it to be used in another vehicle.

I have the Viofo A119S and planning to hardwire it in upfitters switch on 5-6 to leave it on when I be in parking lots and truck off and turn it off when I be on home(no need for dashcams)

Have this same unit and love it. Just make sure to mount to the left of the rear view mirror so the card comes out and far enough to the left to clear the right side of the camera hitting the mirror mount. Also purchase the extra wiring kit for mini USB for $12.

Also installed a Spot which tracks every initial movement with an email and reports on status every 5-min while driving. Cabellas is selling it on special for $50 and free shipping. Cheap and uses long life AAA lithium battery.

I use the Spot for my rides down in Baja. Awesome little device. The wife and Mom get to login to a Google Maps page everyday and watch our progress, where we stopped, we can even leave predetermined messages for them at each stop. And of course, there's a SOS button so they girls can call the helicopter in San Diego and give them our GPS coordinates for a life flight. I honestly never thought to use it to track my truck, but its a great device either way!

Forgot to mention, since its basically a GoPro, it has a nice battery on it, so it will record for a couple hours after you turn off your truck. I believe theres a knock sensor to save battery and only turn on when it feels a knock too, can't remember.

Anyone have any experience with the thinkware 770? It's the dash cam I am considering.

What is the 'extra wiring kit for mini USB'?
is it for another memory card?
Do you have a hyperlink to one that is listed?

Cobra Electronics: CDR 895 D Drive HD Dash Cam & Dash Cam Reviews

It works great so far.

It looks like the power plug doesn't even need the cigarette lighter adapter, that it could instead plug into one of the USB outlets in the dash, is that true?

How did you choose to hard wire it?

I figured I would share this although might be a violation referring to another forum.

dashcamtalk dot com has some very good info on cameras. I think might purchase a thinkware 800. The features seem excellent. Only think I do not like is that the cloud based features are tied to a wifi connection or cell phone. I wonder if could connect this to a ford pass module as it has cellular.

I think a user on here posted that ford plans on adding pass and cellular to older vehicles with a modul.

Black says also has cloud based but seems like you need to add different parts. Either way I am learning more about cams. I have noticed lots of them carry the same photo sensor. The Sony lens.

I'm pleased w/ the 770 - the night vision is the best I've encountered, and I've wired our other vehicles for our only 770...my only fear has been someone would break in & steal the camera...taking any evidence of the perp w/ it.

I'll likely move the 770 to one of our vehicles that is garaged & upgrade to the 800 in the truck (which parks out side).

How difficult is it to get a windshield sunscreen in with the dashcam in place? I have a rigid folding sunscreen that fits pretty tight.
