So just got this truck a few months ago it's a 92 auto with the 302 2wd. It's killed the battery several times since getting it. I noticed an intermittent issue with the door locks not working at all or just making a little noise when I press the button sometimes they work just fine. I also have some issues with the e4od shifting properly when the lock issue happens. Usually I get hard shifts or it doesn't downshift when I stop. I checked the fuse panel and found that #12 is actually a circuit breaker and according to my fuse panel cover it's for the locks and transmission control. When the issue happens that circuit breaker is burning hot. When the locks and trans are working properly it's not even warm.
Any ideas? I'm guessing it's a ground short issue but no idea where to start.
Sound like you may have a parasitic drain on your battery, you should look into that as well. Is it draining down after a long period of sitting? Explain what you know about when it died.
Battery only takes a couple days till fully dead. I was checking that circuit breaker last night and noticed keys and everything off when I plugged the breaker in there's
A huge spark and the cab lights dimmed. I'm thinking the short is in the lock wiring.
I had a similar problem with "Fuse" 12, you are correct it is a circuit breaker, on my first '93 Lightning. One of the power lumbar wires had been rubbing on the seat spring long enough to wear through the insulation. The breaker would trip after it overheated just like it was designed to do. Once it cooled off it closed and the cycle continued.
Since that circuit is hot at all times it would drain the battery.
