97 Explorer No Reverse

97 Explorer No Reverse
Just picked up a '97 Explorer for cheap.....it has no reverse......doesn't even try......I'm thinking its the reverse band problem common to these but just wondering if there is anything else simple that could cause it before I condemn the tranny. Ive got another good trans in an '01, so was planning on swapping it out anyway......just thought I'd see if there was something else to look at first. TIA

I understand it is a very common problem..............I have a good trans, just wanting to know if there was anything else that can cause no reverse before I start tearing it apart.

Yeah....thanks.....was aware of the valvebody gasket issue too......almost have it out.....just realize the exhaust won't quite set it free.......soaking the dam bolts in the manifold tonight with Aerokroil....try it again in the morning
