98 Explorer XLT - no reverse
Hi all,
Have a friend with a 1998 Explorer XLT and when she left work the other day there was no reverse. She hadn't noticed anything different previously to make her think anything might be wrong with the vehicle. We've checked and changed the tranny fluid and filter, still no reverse. Any thoughts?

My aunt had a 97 Sport (2 wheel drive).
The same thing happened to it....just all of a sudden like yours. It drove fine forwards.
She had purchased the extened warranty, fortunately, so they just replaced the trans. Don't know what it would have cost otherwise.
Not sure, but I think that problem is not uncommon for the 96-98 (or so) models.
