Mike, I just looked that up for the conversion kit , Fly wheel and all, and it said 369.00. Did you get a discount or something ? 369 is still a good price but 269 would be great. I found it. Thanks 269.00
I have had two South Bend clutches in my truck and they have been very grabby. This last one has been in for about 3 mo with a lot of stop and go. (stock replacement). Hate trying to back my trailer with it. Most backing I have to get in low range to keep from beating the truck to death. Thinking about getting a luke and replacing it. Just my findings. Satisfaction with different clutches seam to be varied. Just put a luk in my sons jeep and it is great.
If your truck still has the original S5-42 ZF in it, a lot of your problem backing may just be a trait of the trans. The 42 has the highest reverse gear of any of the ZF transmissions. A different clutch may not solve that problem unfortunately.
Rebild, it is the original trans and I did not think about that. I never had a problem with the orig. flywheel but it had a lot more inertia with the weight
Thanks Guys. I just ordered the luk kit with solid mass flywheel for $269.00 free shipping from Parts Geek. I tried Rock Auto, it was same price but $40.00+ shipping so went with PartsGeek.
Thanks to all that helped me out here.
I also got the new pre-bled slave and master with mine for another $100.

The original flywheel is a dual mass flywheel. It is a two piece flywheel with a spring hub in it. It was made to absorb all of the grabbing. Downside to them though was they will come apart eventually and could possibly take out the trans when it does. Solid flywheel is the best way to go, but you will have to deal with the shutter while backing with ANY single disc clutch kit you put in because of the high (3.79:1) ratio of reverse in the S5-42 trans. A dual disc clutch will eliminate most if not all of it, but they are expensive.

As said, it's an attribute of the reverse ratio. Even moreso with 3.55s. Shoot, I use the "2LO" (low range, hubs unlocked) just backing into my driveway sometimes, just to avoid having to feather the clutch so much.
