I have own my 03 six liter since new.No issues and regular maintenance. So the time has come to upgrade,I'm thinking the 6.7
Is there anything I need to know about the 6.7? There all sorts of stories on the 6.0. I am looking at years 12/14. New is out because I only put on 5 to 7 thousand a year.
Thanks Mike
2015 - 2016 have an upgraded fuel pump and turbo...
Most issues are minor. If you survived with a 6.0 you should do fine with a 6.7. I had a 2003 and 2004 6.0 and gave up on them... I had a Decemeber 2010 build, 2011 6.7 and almost as soon as they came out I got a 2015 6.7. (August of 2014) Up until now, I have never bought the same truck twice in a row - that's how much I like the 6.7.
Some trucks have radiator issues, all are finicky when it comes to fuel quality. (Unlike your 6.0 that could run LSD and didn't need ULSD)
Unless you delete, you'll need to learn about DEF and will deal with regens. (Neither are really an issue)
CAC Tubes have been known even in stock/not tuned trucks to break apart
2012 (and I don't know when it ended) turbos had ceramic ball berrings in them that caused an early demise to the turbo.
EGT sensors that went bad in non-deleted trucks used to leave you stranded, but haven't heard of new strandings with the latest calibration that came out over a year ago. So if you get a 2012 - 2014, might want to make sure it was updated to the latest calibration.
Shocks aren't any better from your 6.0....
Really, for the most part there are only minor issues unless you dump DEF in the fuel tank, fuel in the DEF tank, or get water in the fuel. No gaurantees in life of course as some people come into the forum with sad stories of blown motors, $10k fuel system repair bills.
I've had some minor issues, but nothing to really get excited about. I had what felt like a misfiring gas motor when a regen started and the latest calibration fixed it. Some had it worse.
A lot of things seem to be related to all the emissions stuff which is why a lot of people delete. I haven't and probably won't as I like my warranty.
BTW - Congrats on running a 6.0 for that long. And you'll love the stock power of a 6.7 as compared to a 6.0... I did however, love a tuned 6.0!
With those miles per year, you should get a gasser. The 6.7 is not your daddy's diesel.

I would go '13 and higher as that year model got bigger brakes than the '11-'12. The only difference between '13-'14 was the rear heated seat option IIRC. These truck LOVE to be run hard. If only 5-7k per year, unless it is hard towing, you won't get the benefit of these trucks. But, that's about how many I've put on mine, however like I said, I pull a 17k camper every 3 weeks somewhere. Good luck in your search and pics when you get it. We love pics!
I would stay away from 2011's. They did not have all the bugs worked out. 2012 early builds did have the turbo issues along with the 2011's. Radiators were an issue till about 2014 but I have seen some guys having leakers on the 2015's. All in all I would not be scared of anything after an 11 especially since you did not have issues with the 6.0.....that tells me you completed proper maintenance. Only other issue you will likely have down the road 150,000+ miles is the egr and dpf but many times those usually fall off around that many miles.
Thanks for the in put.I have thought about a gasser, but I'm a truck driver and diesel is in my blood. Guess I will change the search years.I want to flatbed my next truck so I can haul the toys with the trailer.
I have a use case for a gasser, but I don't like gas trucks. Except maybe a Raptor... Then I could deal with a gas truck for daily driving. I figured you pulled and that's why you wanted to stick with diesel or like me, diesel runs through your veins...
And right after I posted this, someone posted about a radiator failure on a 2015...
