Body work

Anyone know an approximate cost to fix a 95-96 pickups rust? All the usual places, wheels wells, fenders, rockers. Any input is appreciated. Just curious.

Depends on where you live. Go to a couple body shops and get estimates.

Body shop labor per hour: $50-$100+.

Cost has NO guarantee of quality or of completion of the work.

Almost no shop will look at a non-classic vehicle such as an OBS for rust repair & paint matching and give you a realistic cost estimate that you won't choke on.

That's just the way it is. You might find somebody hard up enough for work to do a quality job, but you might win the lottery too.

Go look at some of the paint threads in the older/classic forums for all the obstacles involved.

How much do you want to spend on something you'll never recoup the cost on?

Most everybody here will do the majority of the repair & prep themselves to off-set the cost of just paint.

Sorry.

Got mine done by a body shop last summer.

Both bedsides, fenders, and radiator support cost me just under $4,000.

Recovering cost isn't the idea. I don't flip vehicles. I try and start with something nice, keep it up, and drive it. Saves alot of money over buying new trucks.

I agree completely.

I have put around $15,000 into my truck in the past 6 years but to me it was worth every penny, since I would have had to pay $25,000-$30,000 to get a newer truck in the shape that mine is in right now. And it would probably still have higher mileage.

Didn't say it was. I purchased a rust free truck for $4850 11 years ago & my widow will never get what I have sunk into it & she doesn't care. Its my hobby & entertainment.

Yes it does. But cutting out rust & welding in metal (The only proper way to repair rust) ain't cheap.

Nothing like spending a bunch of money & a month later & seeing bubbles pop up under a paint job.

Or hitting bump & finding bondo on window screen on that wheel well you thought was fixed.

Yeah, I'm finicky about work on my trucks. That's why I do most of it but body work and paint aren't my strong points.

I agree that does suck, I had it happen to me once (luckily was only a small job) and I won't let it happen again.

Which is why I do my homework first and make sure I take it to a reputable shop that will fix it right and not just slap some bondo and paint on it.

Drive your butt to Commiefornia and relieve them of a $500 truck that won't pass smog, preferably one with with a sketchy title situation and several grand of back registration.
