Finding a body shop?

I may break with tradition on my '64 and have someone else paint it. My own paint jobs never come out all that good, and I really don't have the time. The trick is- how do I find decent body shop? I don't want a 'show' finish; no color changing or pearl, just durable, shiny, bright yellow paint, like the old days. I'm gonna do most of the body prep; I really just need someone to squirt it. I don't trust chains like Maaco; and I don't want to sink a huge amount of money in it, so how do I pick someone? BTW, what should a paint job like this cost? It won't be 'frame-off'; I'll just squirt the cab back/bed front while I'm working on it.

Most body shops don't fool with painting old vehicles as you describe and they also won't work on rust. My brother has a body shop and won't work on the old cars except in slow times and only for "special" people. When he works one for someone that is not a good friend, he prices it so he makes really good money on it. He and most other body shops won't paint one that the owner has done all the body work on. That is because when someone asks the owner who did the paint job, the painter gets the blame for poor body work done by the owner.

Good luck on finding someone who will help you.
