Sync 3 Huge Disappointment

1. Sync Services and Destinations is not available for Sync 3 .

This is the feature on previous models that allows you to say Services and speak a business or address and it would push it down to your navigation.

2. Apple CarPlay virtually unusable

Takes over your native navigation

For Music Album art does not show up .

The only good thing on Sync 3 is the more responsive screen

Other than that Sync 3 is a big step backwards from the previous sync system

I would give it a D-

Other manufacturers have figured this out years ago? Why can't Ford?

Granted my focus is on my truck and I just assumed I would be getting stable working technology with Sync 3

I would take my functional working Sync 2 back if I could

I did call the Sync Services help center this morning. Basically they said 'that is the way it is' and Ford would not be bringing the Sync Services or album art functionally back.

Also the individual on the help line was reading from canned scripts and could not discuss the technology in the system or the IPhone....they even said 'we recommend individuals having Car Play problems to wipe and restore their Iphone'.... I won't be playing that game on 2 up to date IPhones.

I don't know...I personally greatly prefer the new version over the one in my 2014. So much more responsive. CarPlay is apple's problem, not Ford's. It's DESIGNED to take over native nav. Album art is there in both Sync and CarPlay for me, though in the later it is buried and blurred as the background. I usually connect with Bluetooth to keep the OEM interface and you can turn CarPlay off or on as wanted if you have to plug in.

The main thing they could have done in my opinion is to make it a bit prettier, but I'd rather have fast than pretty, though both would be nice.

wharrell, my experience is pretty different than yours.

I have album art...for both music played over USB and even played over Bluetooth. Album art from Bluetooth was never available with MyFord Touch (Sync 2).

CarPlay seems to work just fine. Yes, it takes over your native navigation. That is the primary point of it! CarPlay / Android Auto basically provides a navigation solution to vehicles with Sync 3 but no onboard navigation system.

Regarding voice navigation...forget Sync Services. Simply hit the voice button, say "find an address," and then follow the prompts. The system is much faster at recognition than the old system, and does a much better job. You can even find a street without knowing the actual address. The system seems to be quite good at finding points of interest.

Thanks

The Sync Services on the 2015 let you search for a business name and then the addresses was sent to the navigation through the Sync services phone connection

As to Album Art, I am connected USB with Car Play disabled

I tried it again just now and the art showed for about 15 seconds on a selection and then reverted back to a stock generic image

It always worked fine without issue on the previous sync system

OK. Well, you can still search for a business name just by saying it, and it will find the address and program it into the Nav for you. Just hit the voice button and say "Find a business."

Sync Services was a paid subscription service (free for awhile, then paid). Sync Services also let you use "navigation" when your truck did not actually come with on-board nav. I had a 2015 truck like that, and the Sync Services worked fairly well if you could get it to recognize what you were saying.

Are you trying to play music off your phone while connected with a USB cord?

I would recommend using the Bluetooth connection to play music from the phone - that way there is no CarPlay interference.

Note that *some* album art is not available and you will get the generic image. I have this happen occasionally from stuff played off a USB drive or the phone connection. If the album art is displaying and then going away, I would think it is some kind of interference with CarPlay despite you disabling it.

The only complaint I have is that it doesn't seem to do too well hooked up to an external thumb drive.

I have a couple 1TB USB powered drives, 128GB thumb and 64GB thumb with music on them. Even the 64 sits there and won't let you search for what seems like 20 mins and just says you can "while device is indexing". Then if you switch to Sirius while you wait it just starts the clock over again.

I bought the 128 and 64 to try and help the issue but it doesn't change anything.

Thanks Blackberry.

That's been a common issue for awhile on a lot of these new in-car entertainment systems. I use a simple 8GB drive - it can hold about 1500 hi-resolution mp3 tracks. I have maybe a couple of hundred songs on it - when I get bored of those, I simply hook it back to the computer and exchange those. Indexing is extremely brief.

Haha...that was my thought at first, too. I'm thinking...put my entire music collection on a big zip stick and have it all in the car! Then reality set in.

The 90 music gigs on my phone work great through Blue Tooth, but I use the Rocket Player on Android which syncs perfectly with the desktop including all my playlists and preferences. Sync3 seems to start playing tunes randomly plus being one more program to adjust so I don't use it. Might be nice if it could just take the information from Rocket Player and use it but the phone does a great job just the way it is.

I use Carplay for everything. Spotify has any song I need and the navigation works a thousand times better than the factory nav. I also use Siri for everything, she even works as a great calculator while I am working in my truck

Having an issue I noticed today. Haven't used my phone much other than receiving calls. I tried verbally placing a call today and it said synced phone was not connected. I then received another call through the Sync3 system. I turned my phone off and on just to see if that helped.

Is it saying my phone has to be physically connected (USB) to use my contact info? User error? Don't think this has been an issue with my other vehicles.

My phone will occasionally, but fairly routinely, fail to connect to the truck. Switching the phone bluetooth on and off will cause it to reconnect. Sometimes I have to manually tell the truck to reconnect. I think this problem varies by phone model. Mine is an iPhone 6.
