Exhaust

Is there any kind of muffler yet that can be put on these trucks that won't delete the dpf and void warranty or do diesel trucks by run mufflers like gas engines?

these things are muffled by the emissions system, DOC, DPF & SCR, then straight pipe after the "spaceship". There is a small resonator in the tailpipe section, that offer little sound deadening and definitely does not restrict flow.

Doing anything to the exhaust is a waste of money if emissions equipment is staying on

ahh okay. That sucks I was hoping to get a little more rumble with leaving the dpf on. Kinda like how I put a super 10 on my sierra.

Im assuming straight piping is only advised after warranty haha

If there was a way to leave pilot injection off, these things would actually sound like a diesel all the time. On a cold morning, you will notice how much more diesel ping and knock you hear...then, all of a sudden, it hushes.

That's exactly what I'm seeing. On cold mornings this truck is very diesel-y but it doesn't last for long. It hushes right up after only a mile or two. It's clear that the Ford engineers are not worried about keeping the engine quiet all the time. My 2011 was quieter than the 2017 on cold mornings. But even warm the 2017 sounds better than the 2011. I think they hit the sweet spot between having an appropriate amount of clatter but still quiet enough not to notice it. Another thing is that the 2017 does not hiss on hard acceleration. I swapped out my dpf back exhaust on the 2011 because I really did not like that sound.

If you look on the right door frame there is a certification that the vehicle meets Federal Noise Standards for diesel class vehicles. I love the sound of a diesel. I enjoyed my 7.3 for a quarter million miles. The erratic clatter of the older Caterpillars and the even knock of a KTA 400 Cummins was better than a symphony, not to mention a "Cackling Mack." Not so much the ear piercing scream of a Detroit, diesel's are an addiction. But after 45 years I am welcoming the near silence of this new truck. Normal conversations on the phone, normal conversations with Suzie, and the music sounds ten times clearer. You guys can enjoy striving for more noise, I appreciate the work done to quiet these truck down.
