4X4 problems
Last week ,when going to my cabin on the trapline, I found that I could not take the transfercase out of lo range...It was a slow trip back to town.
Anyway, took it to the dealership where they scanned it and said..shift motor. So I got one and changed it, after repositioning the shaft to the 2H location.
Upon starting the truck and going thru the selector switch, it was found that again, when it got to 4L, it would not come out
What is the fix now...????

Hello Doug,
Classic mistake of guessing to early without further testing.
Obviously the motor runs to the 4L position.
It must run backwards to back out of the 4L and 4H position back to 2 wd.
The control system does this by using a second relay to reverse the 12 volts applied to the motor from the same fused power source.
That's what is not happening.
Either the motor gets stuck mechanically or the reversing relay is not functioning or even an open lead in that system or a Gem module fault.. The GEM is on the backside of the dash fuse panel.
This where the diagnostics failed you.
BTW the relay module is hard to come by now unless you get one from a yard.
Bottom line is to test enough to see why the reverse power application is not functioning using a voltmeter.
The relay mod is near the center of the dash area.
Good luck.
