CDR delete???

Again I've been poking around and I'd like to do the delete. Just piece of mind to me. I want to (bullet proof) the engine haha. My question is what size hoses do I need? And block off the old hole? I've seen some of the posts but no real clear answers

Not sure what size hose, but you'll figure it out. You can just run one in the downpipe and go straight off the existing crankcase vent location depending on where yours is and how creative you are. If you plug the hole in the intake gasket probably a grommet and expanding rubber freeze plug would work, just off the top of my head. If you cut a hole in the valve cover I suggest installing a baffle so it doesn't suck liquid oil splashing off the rockers.

Seriously... don't. Even if the CDR fails, you really won't know it, so it's not a 'bulletproof' thing.

The problem is that your IDI produces a TON of blowby. Unless you run that blowby into the engine to be burned, it will look like your truck is on FIRE. Seriously, it's that much.

Don't take my word for it though - Just remove the air cleaner and fire the engine up. Look down the intake manifold and watch all the smoke being drawn forward out of the cdr.

You can also try blocking that port and opening the oil cap. Watch what comes out. It will be a /lot/.

But if the cdr shuts and won't open that could be very bad as well correct? Of course there is some oil in my intake. And a good amount of smoke from oil filler cap if the engine is hot but I know these engines are very high compression. I guess it's a 50 50 thing. Some recommend doing it to save the engine and some dont recommend it.

It is basically a vent j7st like a PCV valve on a gasser

CDR failure mode is open, tyically a ruptured diaphragm. When that happens it will often weep oil to the outside which makes a mess. Look at how it works. All it does is shut (vacuum pulls the diaphragm closed against the spring) should the engine run away on vapor or oil from the crankcase through the vent hose. The normal blowby that passes through it is burned as fuel.

The only reason to eliminate the CDR is if you have an intercooler and want to keep it clean (keep oil from accumulating in it).

Good to know. I just heard that it could blow seals and "burn oil" or blue smoke. My main concern obviously is seals. But like I said there is alot of mixed feelings about this topic

the bottom line is that the CDR on a mechanical injected diesel is that, CDR's will not give you any performance or mechanical gain if "deleted"
using a RDT just prevents the high crank case pressure from being evacuated efficiently
ive done the RDT and the CDR plumbed into the exhaust in a venturi manor
having it plumbed in the same manor as a stock set up has been the best for me.

this is not an EGR, and this is not a 6.0.
investigate more and make your own conclusions.
it pretty much personal preference.

And I'm not looking for any gain. Just piece of mind about crank case pressure but I don't want to look like a steam engine either haha!

what you should be looking for is a tape measure and your 13MM ratchet wrench, pull it off and figure it out.

Hi, don't know if it's the best idea but has worked good for me for yrs. I have 2 CDR's Take off and replace with the other one. Soak in gas, shake, let dry until next time.
