Just a guess but I would suspect high resistance from corrosion at the male/female metal portion of the connector on the wire that is burnt......caused heat which melted the plug.
Agreed. I would get a new pigtail for that and a new resistor. When you put it back together apply a light film of dielectric grease to the connection to keep moisture out.
Pretty common problem. The high blower speed draws a lot of current. And those spade connectors are iffy at best. High resistance in this connector for what ever reason causes heat that melts this connector..
brandedford, The blower motor still worked fine at all speeds with the burnt plug.
wtroger, Thanks for the info! Is there anything I can do to prevent the new connector from melting? I don't like the thought of melting electrical connectors under my hood!
