How does the Remote Starter work?

On Push Button Start trucks when using the remote starter, does the truck require you to re-start the engine once you get in? Or has Ford figured out how to recognize that the guy with the key is sitting right there?

When you climb into truck, you simply press the start button on the dash and everything unlucks/engages to drive away. Just possessing the key fob is not enough, having the fob is necessary to press start button.

It works very well. Remote start from the fob. Then put the fob in your pocket. Walk up to your truck, grab the door handle, the door unlocks, and you hop in. Now, simply hit the engine Start button and drive away. You do not even need to hit the brake pedal. Works great. No restarting the engine.

Without push button start you just have to cycle the key to run no "re-starting" needed

What, after remote starting mine it requires a foot on the brake pedal then hit the start button same as if you were starting normally.

When I remote start there is no need to touch the brake when I push the button.

Confirmed, I tested this afternoon and no need to apply the brake...but I'm pretty sure I had to once before, weird.

I only ever managed to get mine to remote start one time. The rest of the time the red led on the FOB lights up. I probably am missing something and need to RTFM.

Starting it and putting it in gear to actually move forward are two different things....The transmission shift unlock is still tied into the brake pedal being depressed.

Thanks all! I wonder why those smart German engineers at Volkswagen couldn't figure it out with their remote start and push button? Our Passat TDI kills the moment you open the door, requiring a re-start. Sheesh! I don't even use it.....thinking what's the point?

The system on the 2017 is linked to the passive security so when you get in, it knows your FOB is in your pocket. Then you hit the start button and everything comes up. Away you go. The only thing I don't like is when truck is running and I want to leave it running and get out, the alarm beeps at me, it doesn't like leaving it running. I have yet to figure out if there is a way to set the remote start before I get out so I don't get this double honk warning. But there is always Forscan when I get it to disable the double honk.

On my old truck, you had to unlock the door, and put the key in, change to on, before touching the brake or it would shut off the engine. If you unlocked without the remote, i.e. Door pad, it would set off the alarm and shut off the engine. Then you would need a lock, unlock to clear the alarm, before you could start it with the remote, and if the alarm went off, you would often need to use the restart with the remote or it would not start with the key. So for the TDI, i LED try remote starting it, then I would try unlocking with the remote, putting key in ignition and turn to on, before touching the brake to see if that works. This is a German engineering thing, so worth a try. I know cause I am one.
