my belt is squeelin like a pig that was stuck wrong.
seems to be coming from the water pump pulley.
all other pullyes look good, no wobble, plans on changing the idler and tensioner this week for longevity.
but the belt rides on the front rib of the water pump pulley.
ive had this entire truck apart, twice, mixing it up with a 97 short block, and its all back together now.
the serp set up is all 2001.
my question is, is there a spacer that belongs behind the water pump pulley?
maybe I used the incorrect pulley?
request granted.
I grabbed the other pulley, and they seem to be the exact same, except for the wear line.
no difference in offset
you can see the wear line on the pulley installed is different.
only thing I can think of is that the front timing gear cover is more shallow than the 99+
I know there is a difference in the hpop res gaskets. I needed to install the 97 gasket to use the SD reservoir, so I can run the Sd fuel filter housing.
waiting on a check I can use to play with, in the mean time ill make a shim.
im pretty new building these engines. but no task is too big nor small
just curious if there was shims on any of these models.
the truck sounds great with straight pipe,
but the belt squeal kills it.
There is no shim normally. You are on the right track with the shim idea, though. A grooved belt needs to be on accurately aligned pulleys for it to not wear out prematurely.
A good straight edge might help figure out exactly how far off you are.
well, yesterday I changed the tensioner/idler and the lone idler, new belt,
and noticed a flaw.
I changed powersteering pulleys in the travels of getting it back together.
realized I had a RCH more to go on the PS shaft.
was able to get 3/4 turn out of the installer.
and it seems to be golden, for now.
