I just ordered a Skyjacker 4" lift for my '76 F250 highboy that I'm planning on running 38x14.50 tires on. What, if any steering mods are going to need to be done to handle the lift? I'm trying to get everything ordered in one shot.
Depending on your front axle (low pinion) I'd ck your yoke/u joint clearances. And your front d/s slip yoke engagement amount. Both before and after the lift.
Ck brake lines for enough slack when you flex it out, ck ebrake cables where they split to have some slack too. As far as steering mods??
"Highboy steering was either manual (1967-1977.5) or optional power ram
assist (1973-1977.5). The power ram assist steering is problematic due to
its complexity with numerous hoses that get hit by road (or off-road)
debris, and the parts are now expensive and rare. There were two
different types of power ram assist steering on the Highboy: Garrison and
Bendix. Highboy steering, manual or optional power ram assist, is very
susceptible to bumpsteer. Many owners find it most desirable to convert to
crossover steering."
With most "lowBoys" 77-79 F250 lifts 4" or 6" you need a drop pitman arm (from the steering box) , adjustable steering link. Some folks use a "steering block" that goes on top of the steering knuckle, and also brake lines (3) and longer shocks.
But with your HB set up I do not know for sure. Due to the difference in the steering set up. See in the pic the lack of drop pitman arm (there is one there its just still in stock configuration) and there fore crazy adjustable link angles?
A drop pit arm fixed that easy enough. Do you have a set up like the 2nd pic?
