Winter is here, and i am restoring my 1980 F250 4x4 HD.
I have to bring the truck top the OEM factory spec, in order to register it as a historical vehicle, and i need your help.
I want to replace all the weatherstripping on the doors, so i took apart the glass from the metal frame. The vent glass has a rubber seal which goes into the metal frame, and mine is cracked and torn. I tried to take some pics, just to be clear.
I am using LMC and Summit for parts, being in Europe, but the LMC site does not supply this part. Do you happen to know if it's included in the vent window seal kit, or am i screwed?
I am also looking for some slide style door locks, with no joy. Mine are broken and painted over. Took all the interior plastics/metal trim for a repaint.
Also, do you guys have a source for the transmission (4x4 selector) floor boot rubber?
First, welcome to FTE! Where are you located in Europe? We have a few members over there. And my wife and I lived in the U.K. A couple of years and travel there as well as the Continent from time to time, so may have been "there".
On the vent window, I believe the rubber comes in the LMC kit. I don't know for sure because I've used kits from elsewhere, but that is a pretty standard part. Also, you might be interested in this write up on my web site: Vent Windows - ???Gary's Garagemahal.
As for the locks, I'm thinking someone recently came out with replacements. Let me see what I can find. And, by the way, your door pocket is unusual - at least from what I've seen. Do you know if it is original to the truck?
And I'll also look for the transfer case boot. I think I've seen those as well somewhere.
The lock parts are now available at Dennis Carpenter. And if you haven't perused their catalog you should as they have good stuff. In fact, you could get the vent window and door seals there and have that and the lock parts shipped to you in one go.
Having said that, I didn't find the transfer case boot there.
David - That appears to be the right boot for this application, as shown on a new page I found on this web site: Boots - ???Gary's Garagemahal.
But, I did caveat the entry on transfer cases as follows:
Note: This seems to say that these are the boots to use on a transfer case behind an automatic transmission. However, the catalog doesn't show a similar entry for transfer cases behind a manual transmission. Further, Ford used the exact same transfer cases behind both automatic and manual transmissions. So, I am confident that these boots are also correct for t-cases behind manual transmissions. However, if you know otherwise please enlighten me.
And, well spotted on the door pocket. That is what it is. Thanks!
Would you guys put your location in the User Control Panel (User CP in the upper left) and then the first pick on the left - Edit Details. It would sure help me remember who is who. Thanks!
Bill - That may actually have been the question rather than the seal. And, if so, then you are much more perceptive than I. Well spotted.
However, their auto glass shops (wherever "they" are) may not have the tape. I guess we will watch and see.
People in Europe also have 'old rolling piles of misery' and auto glass shops, so buying glass tape shouldn't be a problemo.
While taking a narrated in English bus tour of Berlin in 2000, I spotted a Borgward Isabella. I said out loud, haven't seen one of those in a coons age. People looked at me like I was crazy.
