When you go to put the 1/2 ton 4 speed into the tonner you will need to swap the rear bearing retainer / rear motor mount. Sounds like you will have all the parts to get the tonner running except maybe a radiator?

My tonner pu actually does run right now and has a radiator. The rad was missing when I got it but had a spare I got from a friend. Problem is when I got it unstuck it ran ok, and I installed the radiator and filled it with coolant. Then I tool a couple laps around the place and there was a bubbling flow of coffee colored foam and goop coming out of everywhere. All the coolant was in the pan within two minutes! The PO told me it had a cracked block, but I thought 'what flathead doesn't?'. Well this v8 is pretty rough. I have a few choices for it like an 8ba that has 100+ in seven cylinders and about 50 in the last. Removing the head showed nothing. It had sat a long time, but longer it ran on the stand it got better. I may put that one in my half ton. I have a lot of jailbar trucks and don't need them perfect I just like to have all my trucks be able to run so I can move them when needed. And I can't rest until they all do run...... Here's my two tonners and the half ton. The tonner with rear fenders has the cracked block, the other no block and the half ton has the correct V8, stuck, one head off, the other apparantly hung up on the studs. Who knows, it might be salvageable, but I'm currently spread too thin to find out.

I have had a couple flathead Ford 6 motors and like them. If the choice is between spending money on a V8, or spending a lot less money on a 6, I choose the 6 every time.

Here's a picture of the 6 cylinder trans where it bolts to the engine. Much different pattern than the 8 cylinder.

Looks similar to what is behind my G 6 cylinder. Can the adapter housing on the front of the trans be swapped with one for a V8? Thinking the 4 speed trans might be the same for both engines?

The trans pictured here will only bolt up to a flat 6, with G adapter, to either the G, H, or M series.

A 3 speed trans was also made for the 59-ab and that 3 speed can be a adapted to a Flat Ford 6 cylinder, either G, H, or M series using the adapter from the later H or M series engines.

I stumbled on to this thread, not sure if anyone still cares about the topic.
I want to use a 49 H engine with a 47 g drive line.
I have everything from the bell on back, unfortunately a torque tube and banjo rear.
The bell fits the H crankcase except for 2 bolts, Both these spots the 49 case AND the 47 cast bellhousing are threaded at the joints, I was hoping it would swap. The bolts are 7/16x14, not a lot of room for bolts or for repair studs an nuts behind the flywheel as someone suggested to me, plus one bolt hole doesn't line up at all.
I was gonna go for the T-5 swap, but I'm kinda in love with the old stuff. I'm thinking about all kindsa ways around it, but would love to hear any comments or suggestions...

This is the part that connects the 47 g six cylinder 226 engine to the g bell housing. If you have this part on the front of your g series bell housing the whole unit will attach to an h 226 or an m 254 cu. in. flat head 6.

While this subject is up again, I should add that I tried to start the H six on it's stand but the starter kept hanging up in the ring gear. The six starter has a different pinion gear than the eight. Maybe one less tooth, but that part was correct. Couldn't find a ring gear ANYWHERE. I did find Al Suehring in Pennsylvania. He's a retired machine shop owner that sells only ring gears. I had to wait almost a year, but he finally got a batch of H six ring gears in from a small batch manufacturer. Now it sits on the H, encircling the carb like a ring toss game at a carnival. I think it's a good project for this Fall.

I just went out and hung my bell, like the one that you have pictured, on the 254 cu.in. engine and I see what you are talking about. However when I bought my truck this bell and transmission was attached to the 254 and I drove it like that. Now, I have a 226 H series in my pickup with a later 3 spd. toploader and the pressed steel bell housing.

Jerry-rigging is part of my “flat 6” fever, but first, as Hippocrates, I seek to do no harm...
The temptation to run with a missing bolt is great, sounds like you’ve done it?
