Sync 3 in a 2015

Does appear to be an ATT connection. Appears to be included free for 5 years with the purchase of a vehicle with Connect as an option.
Small print from Ford Sync 3 Connect webpage.
Vehicles equipped with SYNC Connect: SYNC Connect is standard on the 2017 Escape Titanium and is included in the SE Technology Package. For 2017 Fusion, it is standard on the Fusion Platinum and Platinum Hybrid. In addition, it is standard equipment for the Fusion SE (202A), Titanium (300A), V6 Sport (401A), SE Hybrid (602A), and Titanium Hybrid (700A) when the Driver Assist Package (90A) is ordered.
*SYNC Connect is an optional feature on select 2017 model year vehicles and includes service for five years from the vehicle sale date as recorded by the dealer. FordPass is available through a free download via the App Store® or Google Play™ store. Message and data rates may apply. Services may be limited by mobile phone network coverage area. Apple and Apple logo are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries. App Store is a service mark of Apple, Inc. Android, Google Play and the Google Play logo are trademarks of Google, Inc.
**4G LTE is not available everywhere. To check wireless coverage in your area, go to att maps and choose Wireless Coverage.

He does have a website: Infotainment.com (Previously OEMAutoPartsCo.com). About $2k for the upgrade.

Not sure that's him, he is OEM Radio Systems. But not sure it isn't either. It is about $2K, but you do get the satisfaction of throwing the Sync 2 in the garbage (eBay!).
I gave up on ATT some time ago. It couldn't connect a phone call in downtown Manhattan, let alone a rural area. Now they have bought DirecTV and are slowly ruining it too.

It isn't worth $2k for me personally. I don't care for MFT and Sync3 isn't much better IMHO. NAV built in is all I would use Apple Carplay or Android Auto for anyways. Although it would be nice if my iPhone would allow incoming text messages to display on the radio screen, instead I don't know if I get a text. My android phones would... (I know it's a Apple permission thing when that radio was programmed.)

Very cool, thanks for posting swarf_rat!
I have worked with 4D Tech in the past to install Sync 1 with Nav in my 2012 base XLT Super Duty. They were very good to work with, and sometimes will give you a discount.
In my case, I bought a take-out Sync1 head unit with Nav touchscreen...but it came from an Expedition and still had green backlighting intstead of Ice Blue. 4D Tech was able to change the lighting over using new LEDs, and programmed it for my truck. I also had to drill a hole in the roof since my truck did not even have Sirius radio.
So I've had them all...Sync 1, MyFord Touch (Sync 2) and now Sync 3 in my 2017.
My opinion is that voice command in the first two versions was dismal; Sync 3 is actually quite good. The navigation functionality and interface was perhaps best on Sync 1, and worst on Sync 2. I do like the swipe and pinch functions on Sync 3. For overall interface, I never minded MFT...I liked the "quadrant" setup. One advantage it had was it would still display settings for each quadrant in a very minimized tab when you were on another screen. That meant I could still see what audio track was playing when I was on the nav screen. Sync three does not allow this unless you run small screen nav.
Sync 3 definitely has the fastest response time of the three, but it still isn't lighting fast and could be improved. Additionally, graphics are pretty boring. The graphics on Sync 1 navigation were simply nicer.

I still like the Sync 3 better than Sync 2 by a wide margin.
One thing I do not like about the Carplay implementation (and it keeps me from using it at all) is when enabled, it shuts off the on board navigation function. You are forced to use Apple Maps, which will very likely guide you to the wrong place. You can't use Google maps which remains better, despite Googles concerted effort to ruin it over the years.
On Sync 3 the maps need to get updated on WiFi as they are stored internally. I don't know what they will charge, so far there has not been an update. They will probably charge what the market will bear, which seems to have settled in the $150 range for most manufacturers.

$2100 with Ford NAV is a lot to pay just to go to Sync3. $1600 is still a lot to pay even if you forgo NAV and use the maps off your iPhone or Android phone.
