paint color and code
I'm wondering if anybody out there knows the name of the red that was used on the1949 F-3? I have heard vermilion red and fez red. I,m looking for the PPG code. I painted the rims with a base clear coat PPG DBC3718 It looks close but the truck is so faded it's hard to tell if it is the right color.

I swiped this from an earlier post by Tim (mtflat).
The link lists the color as "Fez Red". I think that's a reference to the hat by the same name. The color codes are there and it would be best to use them for an exact match. Be careful trying to match the color based on what you see on your computer monitor or from a printout of the chips. Unless you use a calibration scheme for your monitor and printer, the color usually won't be exactly correct. 
Check out this link for paint chips - instead of clicking on Ford truck, just click on "Ford" for colors earlier than 57.

the ppg-deltron # for a 1956 ford truck with torch red/vermilion is DBU-71243#H
This will be a paint code "R" I dont know if its the same as a 49, but you could go to the paint shop with this # and see if its close.
