Hi peeps, i bought a new to me 03 explorer 4.6 tow package XLT 136000mi.rebuilt aamco trans with 10k on it.Been checking it over before i put it on the road..no 4x4 but the button lites work and i got into low range once.(had a hell of a time getting back to high but eventually it did)Question is if there is 12v at the brown wire on the TC the case should be fully locked?I figure when i check it if there is not 12v at the brown wire in 4x4 high i could apply 12v directly with a jumper wire to see if the case locks to 4x4.Am i correct?thanks for any info-don
if you don't have 12 v, then possibly a fuse or switch problem.
--if you have 12 v , the motor does not necessarily work - could be bad
--if you have 12 v, the motor MIGHT be good and the internals might be STUCK
--sometimes to test, they remove the motor , leave the elect plugged in, set the unit on a buck and operate the switch to see what moves and what does not... but YES, you do need to verify that power is available.
Ehh have to clarify here.I did not mention it was the clutch power wire that i think im testing for.I did mention that the case did switch to low range but still had no 4x4 or 4x4 in high or auto setting but the little lights in the buttons lite up.Im not positive i think the slightly larger brown wire energizes the clutch inside the case that actually gives it 4x4 im thinking its toast.Wish i could get rid of that setup and have a good ol no frills part time case.Could probibly be done but there would be hell to pay
