just picked up a 2014 F250 with the 6.2 engine. after putting 100 miles on it i had to take off hard to avoid a speeder and the CEL came on. checked codes and got PO420, catalyst efficiency low bank 1.
the truck has 93K miles on it. ya think this could be caused by worn spark plugs?
i have run diesels for the past 35 years, so diagnosing a new gas engine is a bit out of my league.
Tom
There are a lot of rigs on here that have way more than you on original plugs, Could it be? maybe, If it was mine I would reset it to clear the code. and run the cleaner of your choice for a couple tanks. Not knowing the history It could have been owned by the little old man from pasadena and babyed/dogged. I would give yourself some time to blow it out.
it was owned by pioneer natural resources in texas. tech supervisors truck that saw average 35k miles per year running between wellheads to calibrate the equipment. i have full service records on the truck too. 4500 hours run time but only around 500 hours idle time. i did reset to turn it off.
Welcome tjc I've always enjoyed your posts you're a wealth of knowledge and real helpful on FTE I am real glad to see you with us. Good luck on your new ride.
makes sense Denny. so you agree with putting new plugs in.
well, i guess that decides the issue, and i gotta do plugs.
big job? i read somewhere about having to remove the wheel and inner fender to do plugs?
is this something for a half crippled old fart to try, or one of those things best left for a younger person to do.
Yes I would try plugs first, I've haven't done them yet, I should be 5 years away but some on the forum have maybe they will chime in. Can't be any worse than the V10.
Depends Tom. 6.2 has 16 plugs. I had them done at the dealer when I had the truck worked over in late 2015 per the wife's request. If I recall it was around 7 or 8 a plug. The dealer did them for 150 I think. Given the stealership is more coin than average. Figure around 100-110 if you procure them and install yourself. Good luck with the new ride Tom.
wellllll. it seems some senile old fart forgot he had autoenginuity in the laptop.
i realized i still had it a few minutes ago and put it on the truck. cylinder one is the only one firing 100%
cylinder 3 shows 65,542 misfires and is only firing 22%, all other cylinders are between 25% and 80%
my bet is new plugs will fix the issue. it is going in monday morning for trans fluid change, so i will just have them throw plugs in it while they have it
