Anyone else have this issue? Needs fixed.

I have an '89 F250 with the 5.0 litre with the standard transmission.

The truck will start right up, idle and throttle up and run for hours. I know this because I am flushing old gas out.

What is going on though is once you get into the truck and drive it around, it will randomly just quit running. It will start right up and will run all day again until it is driven. Then it will randomly die again.

This is the reason why the truck was parked I was told. Like I said, it sat for a while and I am flushing out the old fuel. I have gone over the truck tugging on wires to look for loose connections or shorts. Nothing found.

Could the ignition module on the distributor cause such a random occurrence? Any help would be great on this if anyone has had the same thing happen.

Have you checked the wiring on your ignition switch, on top of the steering column? Sounds like it's the bumping around from driving that is knocking a weak connection loose.

Pull the PCM and inspect for water damage there.

Something has got to be loose, corroded or worn through somewhere.

Or is it a fuel issue??? could be that as it sloshes around while driving, the sock in the tank gets plugged.....need to determine if its a fuel or an electrical issue first, then go from there>

I am suspecting it is in the steering column. The column sleeve is pulled off and they have been using pliers on the connecting rod for a while to start it. Now, even doing the connecting rod doesn't start it. Been jumping the solenoid under the hood.

But the sudden stopping was happening before they parked it but it still started with the key.

But my suspicion is that I get the ignition switch fixed properly and maybe that will cure the stopping issue.

As with the fuel issue, it could be the sock, but I would think that it wouldn't fire right back up without any issues.

Thanks for all the replies and looking forward to any ideas that come my way. I thing I will start with the ignition switch first.
