Unhappy feedback carbs!!!

If there's no easy solution, she'll sit in long-term storage until I can get a 347, EFI, and possibly a blower......

I bought this 85 E150 (5.0L elec 2bbl, EEC IV) two years ago knowing that it had some problems. Mechanic said fuel pump, so put one on. drove good down to 1/8 tank of fuel, then just died and wouldn't start back. Next day, put in fuel and drove home.

A few weeks later, did same thing @ 1/2 tank, didn't add fuel and restarted next day and drove 25 miles no problem. Replaced ignition module (old tested good). Now is consistant about dieing @ 1/4 tank. When dies, seems like no fuel, but has fuel smell in exhaust.

What doesn't add up, is the emmissions light. When starting, KOEO; emmission & charge light on, low oil off...cranking; emmissions light off, charge/oil on....when dieing or dead; no lights lit. I cannot pull codes b/c something on drivers side is soaking up power, (you can hear it click when you put the batt cables on/off,) and kills the battery in about 2 hours. Oh yea, thats new too, upgraded size since this is a conversion van.

I have good ECU from 84 Ranger EEC IV 2bbl 2.8L if it will work the van...

If I must convert to another form of ignition, or start rewiring, I will probably just wait and do all of that with the engine compartment empty, and run fuel and ignition systems seperate from chasis electrical systems.

thanks for your help in advance.

You might check the ignition switch first. These were known to start coming apart and causing all kinds of problems. There were recalls on these. Look at the actual switch, it has a plastic body with 4 metal clips that hold it up against the base. If there is ant movement on the body when you move it around, then it either needs repaired or replaced. I have had some success with a hammer and a screw driver and tapping up on the matal tabs to tighten the body and create a better connection. If the cantacts have arced too much, they could be burnt and a new switch will be needed.

Also, I have seen the distributor pick-up going bad cause the same symtoms. Acts like it's running out of fuel then dies, then after sitting for awhile, it fires right up. The pick-up coil was breaking down when hot.
