My 1990 5.0 recently decided to stop working. I figured it ran out of gas cause my buddy was running it on a low tank, but we but 5 gallons in it. Fuel pump in the tank still makes noise. A few times we had it running for about 5 seconds, then quit. Plugs /Wires/Distributor are all fine. Could the ignition module be dead? Not really familiar with ignitions sytems, and can't really afford to have a shop work on it. From everything I've looked at, I can't find anything wrong. Any info would be a life-saver
Yop should look at the fuel filter first. I had a old truck that did the same thing and it was just the fuel filter. If that does not work it may be the module but they most of the time will work until it gets hot and then die. Hope this helps Billy
Why don't you pull a sparkplug wire off, stick a screwdriver in the end of the wire, hold the screwdriver close to the engine block, and see if you have spark? Instead of guessing if it's the module.
Well I got a spark.. Engine cranks good, all vacuum lines are good. Just for a test I sprayed some throttle body cleaner in the intake, and the enging would even run off that. So i guess it's a fuel pump. All wires/connections seem to be good. Are there any fuses or anything I should check for, or something else which would be easy to overlook? The fuel pump doesnt make noise when I turn the key, but gauge still works. And i cant even switch tanks, cause the back on failed a few months ago
