Blend door cable replacement 82F100

The cable to my blend door is broken on my 82F100. Just replaced heater core and repaired the blend door. The previous owner told me the heater always blew hot air. Pulled lots of mice nesting material out of the heater cavity. Mice had eaten the foam off the blend door which left a couple of holes for air movement. Question: What's the best way to gain access to the heater controls so I can access and replace the blend door cable? Radio and ashtray is out. Any ideas?

Remove the HVAC panel from the dash, those cables will come out with it.

Thank you as that will send me on my way. Somewhere on here I found that the cable can be replaced with lawn mower throttle cable so that's my next task. The cables are very difficult to find.

You can use a mower throttle cable or a manual choke cable also.

The throttle cable worked very well. I tried using the ends from the original cable on the throttle cable, but the epoxy did not hold. Put entire throttle cable assembly on and it works well. It's not original, but it's functional.
