Current Fuel Prices....

Now, I would think a salary of $70K or so would land you at about the same spot. If gas went up at the same rate we would be paying $2.10 or so...
I would agree with your theory if the cost had risen gradually WITH inflation. But a 20-cent hike in one week, with no real increase in the cost of raw materials, is price-gouging. And answer me this: when the cost of crude goes up Monday morning, the kid at the local station is raising the price on the sign out front that afternoon. When the cost of crude goes DOWN on Tuesday, the oil companies tell us it takes 4-6 weeks for that cheaper crude to get through the system. Again, I'll ask the question: JUST HOW STUPID DO THEY THINK WE ARE? I don't mind paying a fair price for a product; I DO MIND being taken advantage of and being treated like an idiot.

I know of one station that I can get 87 for $1.56, but everywhere else it is $1.68. and premium is $1.93. Needless to say, I went and bumped my timing down so I could run the cheap stuff.

I've noticed it varies a lot. $1.79 at one station. $1.69 at the station across the street. Seems kind of suspicious.

I pulled up to a station this morning, and it's $2.05 for the cheap stuff (the 87)... in order to fill with the high test stuff, you need to take out a second mortgage... I filled with cheap, and it still cost me close over $30.00

central indiana---about $1.75-$1.80 a gallon for the cheep stuff(Columbus). Last weekend I headed to southern indiana, drove past a gas station and noticed deisel for $1.60(North Vernon), thinking "why did i not buy the deisel motor". 30 miles down the road the same gas company was selling deisel for $1.19 a gallon(Madison). Strange but 20 miles north(Franklin) gas is always 15 to 20 cents cheeper than in my town. I cannot figure that one out.

Here on the border it's 1.52 for basic unleaded, diesel is 1.44. Just across the Rio Grande in Mexico it's over 2.00 dls a gallon. But that is nothing new, Mexico has only one oil monoploy, PEMEX. They have been screwing their people for years.

Regular is 86 cents a litre here ( $3.24 a gallon).

If you think thats bad, there was a guy on the local radio station quoting gas prices around the world today. This is what I remember most:

Scotland - $3.00 per litre ( $11.28 a gallon)

I guess $3.24 a gallon isn't THAT bad lol......

Regular here is $1.689 and diesel is $1.529. I'm not saying I'm for high fuel prices, cause I'm not. Why is it though any time the prices take a jump it is price gouging? If you think fuel prices jump around, watch the grain markets. It can take a 10-20 cent per bushel drop or rise in one day. We have 20,000 bushels of wheat sitting in bins, the price drops 10 cents in one day that is a $2,000 loss, and if it goes up 10 cents we make $2,000. Just having the weatherman predict moisture over the weekend in a major grain area can cause the price of wheat to drop, and the crops that moisture will effect aren't even planted yet (speaking of wheat since that's what we raise). I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but I believe there are good reasons for the price jumps in fuel. The enviromentalists are always pushing that we need to conserve more instead of drilling new wells, doesn't the increase in price naturally cause you to start conserving. So instead of blaming the "Big Oil" for gouging the consumers, maybe it is the enviromentalists finding ways to make the prices jump so that people will conserve more. Sorry for the rant, I just believe in having hard evidence before coming to a conclusion.

$1.91 for REGULAR at the Shell station, diesel is same price.

The local cops don't even pay attention when I ride my street-illegal KDX-250 though town, since the price of gas has jumped over 30 cents in under 2 weeks.

Exxon 93 octane is $1.84 a gallon here in Ohio for the Lincoln. Where I was in California it was $1.99 for 91 octane. Ohio's really not that bad.
